Something new on my easel...

After the recent fruit themed still life paintings, I decided to do something completely different.  As you can see, my subject is a woodpecker.  The reference photo for this was taken by Dennis Jordan in South Florida. Thank you, Dennis, for such a great picture!

The only part I don't really like is the branch he is sitting on.  However, at this point I have worked it to death, and need to pronounce it finished. It is an 8 x 10 on stretched canvas.

Berries Still Life is Complete!

I have finished the berries still life.  It is 11 x 14 on a canvas panel. It was fun, but after two fruit themed still life paintings in a row, I am ready for a change.  Hmm, wonder what will be on my canvas next??

Another Fruit Still Life...

I really enjoyed painting  "Still Life with Oranges", so decided to do another fruit themed still life.  This one also has reflections, since the strawberries are in what appears to be a silver gravy boat.  It's not quite finished, but I think it is coming along well.

Look mom, no knob!

After getting some advice from fellow artists, I decided to omit the knob near the bottom of the painting.  It was a distraction from the focal point.  All have agreed that this is much better. I still felt that the wood needed "something", so I added the knots.

Still Life with Oranges completed

Well, I am calling this one complete.  I may end up tweaking the doily a little bit later on, but otherwise I think it is as good as it will get.  It was a very productive day!  I helped Bert plant two peach trees, a pear tree, and a couple of blackberry canes.  We are determined to make our little homestead productive.  Now if I could just sell some paintings.

Still Life with Oranges continues...

I've been working on this painting some more this afternoon.  Since I crochet, I am really familiar with all the textures and nuances of crocheted yarn.  But gracious, I am having a difficult time making it look like I want it to.  I am fairly pleased with the curtain and the tie back.  All in all, I think it is going well.

Still Life with Oranges

I have wanted to paint since last week, but real life kept getting in the way.  I decided today to go ahead and paint some.  This is what I have completed so far...  I haven't attempted a still life in years, and I have never tried to paint reflections.  So far I am pretty pleased with the results.
